A Note on US Tariffs

US Tariff Information

Important information for our valued US customers

Thank you for supporting Kaslo Shops Distributing (KSD). Changes to US import rules have affected the cost of shipping our model railroad products from Canada to the United States.

We want to explain these changes as clearly as possible so you can make an informed decision before placing your order.

What happened to duty-free shipping?

Previously, many shipments valued at US$800 or less could enter the United States without import duties under the de minimis exemption.

That duty-free treatment is no longer available for our shipments to US customers. As a result, import duties may apply even to relatively small orders.

How much duty will I pay?

KSD products are classified under Harmonized System (HS) heading 9503.00.

For the Canadian-origin products in our current Shopify checkout example, the standard duty rate is 0%. Shopify also displays two additional US tariff charges of 10% and 50%, producing a combined estimated duty rate of 60%.

For example, on an order containing US$90 worth of merchandise:

Shipping and any additional applicable fees are not included in this example.

The duties displayed at checkout are estimates. Applicable rates and the final assessment of import charges are subject to US customs requirements and may change.

Your purchasing options

Option 1 — Order directly from KSD

You are always welcome to order your kits directly from Kaslo Shops Distributing. Applicable estimated import duties will be displayed during checkout so you can review the cost before completing your purchase.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support.

Option 2 — Order through our US partner, 3D Central

Many KSD products are also available through our US partner, 3D Central.

Purchasing products already stocked in the United States may avoid the separate cross-border import process associated with ordering directly from Canada. Product pricing, availability, and any applicable charges are determined by 3D Central.

Where available, we will also include links in our KSD product listings to the corresponding products on the 3D Central website.

Thank you for your understanding

We recognize that these changes make purchasing model railroad products from Canada more expensive for our US customers.

Whether you choose to order directly from KSD or through 3D Central, thank you for your continued business and support of Canadian model railroad manufacturing.
